To Do List for Williams, Arizona, a community with distinction!
Williams is named after a real person, Mountain Man Old Bill Williams. Williams is “The Gateway to the Grand Canyon”, it says so right across Grand Canyon Blvd. where you leave I-40 at Exit 163 and head toward the center of town. Williams grew up around the railroad and the iron horses that ran the track. Williams was a vital stopping point on US Highway Route 66, one of the original US Highways, “the Mother Road”. Over the years the road also gained two more names: "Will Rodger's Highway:, and "Main Street America". So popular is US 66 that it has a very frequently heard song named for it. Then there was the TV show. Williams was the last community to be by-passed on the Interstate Highway 40 in October 1984.
Williams actively works at keeping the significance of US Route 66 alive. We try hard to help you “get your kicks on Route 66”. Williams is a destination recreational center with many great opportunities to relax, learn new things , and have lots of fun.
You can make Williams your central
hub, and take short day trips to many locations. There are many restaurants so you can avoid
cooking for the whole vacation, just leave the dishes to us. There’s
lots of hotels, motels, and RV parks where you can rest up between day trips. Williams competes favorably to be your center of fun and wins hands down with romping good entertainment of an old time western flavor all its own. Williams is a calmer place, without even a single tri-color stop light. And this list of things to visit and do?
